They say the first line of defense for any production company or studio is the reader. Well, Kay Tuxford has been reading around town since she stepped foot in Hollywood, at places such as Dark Horse Entertainment and Gary Paulson Productions. Currently, Kay is a judge and reader for Scriptsavvy.net, the #1 rated monthly screenwriting contest. She also runs the Development Notes and Story Specialist Consulting Service for The Writers Store. Kay is a graduate of Chapman University's Screenwriting MFA program, where she studied screenwriting in the classroom and spent her free hours in the Art and Wardrobe department to learn on-set skills. Accolades from Chapman include a Knott Scholar position working under screenwriter Larry Gross, a Best Screenplay nomination for her feature "Coffeespoons," and Best Film award for the short "54 Meets #47," which she penned. She also won 1st place in the 1-Hour Category of Scriptapalooza’s TV Writing Competition for her "Dexter" spec script, and partook in the UCLA professional certificate course in screenwriting. Kay has partnered with several production teams to write feature projects, including a feature version of her short film "Whore" which screened at several film festivals in 2009-2010. Kay's very happy to teach screenwriting through Writers University, and she strongly feels that the best lessons in writing are achieved by putting pen to page.
